London Bride & her boy {AKA Charley & Marcus}

8 Feb 2013

One rainy cold day in West Sussex Mr & Mrs London Bride came down to the cottage for a shoot with me.  As part of what I offer my mentoring students they get to see me ‘in action’ shooting a couple, which I find is one of the biggest insights for any photographer.  It was literally one of those days when you look outside praying that the rain would stop but you know it didn’t.  What I love about the shooting in a mentor session is that it is real I ensure that I don’t have other photographers to pose for me, as this is about real couples in real situations that you would face in your shooting life as a photographer.  It would be easier to use people that are used to posing and being in front of the camera right?  But then that would defeat the object.  So we had some tea and cake and I was starting to get nervous with the rain thumping down I made the decision that it would have to be inside; now my house is cute but making a space work inside is tricky.  I will not lie I felt sick with worry about it what it did is that it pushed me out of my comfort zone and forced me to shoot in an environment that I am not used to shooting in.  Meanwhile the gorgeous Charley & her boy were equally getting nervous and so I take a deep breath and start to shoot them, now these two are gorgeous but nervous and I was in my dark cottage with the lovely mentor student Jo watching me so no pressure then.  But you know what to let go and feel the fear and do it anyway is good, I shot from my heart made that connection to Charley & Marcus and bingo.  These two love birds are all kinds of gorgeous, I would photograph them again in a heartbeat, next time having them run bare foot through a meadow with the sun setting….

    I love black and white ones of them on the bed, with the florals on Marcus’ tie playing off Charley’s top! So gorgeous and intimate. Beautiful images!
