The first time I met Megan & Mike we giggled a lot, Mike took the Mickey out of me for my luddite phone, we talked about photography, cameras, film, dresses….. These two are like kindred spirits I love being in their company not just because they are gorgeous and brilliant to shoot but because we have a genuine connection and they are full of life, energy & importantly for me totally trusted me to do what I do best; allowing me to work organically and creatively.
These are two serious cool kids and after their pre-wedding shoot in Brighton I was itching to shoot their wedding, which was just down the road from me at the beautiful Upwalthams Barn, I knew it was going to be a day full of fun and beautiful things and I was not wrong. The girls got ready their and turned up in their PJs, they giggled non stop the excitement in the room was electric, the bridesmaids looked amazing in their Vivien and Holloway dresses and so suited them so fun, colorful and sassy. I love it when the bridesmaids helped Megan get dressed their excitement was off the Richter scale; Megan looked beyond amazing and when the finishing head piece went on and her Dad came up the stairs their was not a dry eye in the house. Mike had his brother as best man and they nervous waiting for Megan to arrive but as soon as he saw her he beamed from ear to ear and never stopped smiling throughout the ceremony. Megan’s family is Welsh and coincidentally so was the registrar so she spoke some words in Welsh which was a first for me at a wedding, I still have no idea what she said but it sounded amazing. Following the ceremony and drinks and nibbles, I took Megan & Mike off in the car for some photos in the nearby woods, the sun was shining, the woods were twinkling and so still and lush, we had a ball creating some portraits. A hop and a skip back to the rustic reception for feasting and speeches, Mike used his I pad {which was a first} and being a lecturer totally nailed it, the delivery was perfection and had everyone roaring with laughter one minute and the next in tears, his brother {also a lecturer} told some hilarious stories about their childhood and the guests were captivated. The sun began to set over the south downs the end to a perfect September day and I had earlier in the week found a field of sunflowers just 2 minutes down the road I asked them how about dashing their for 10 minutes to get that last bit of sun and they were totally up for it. The light was perfect, seeing them watch the sunset together being surrounded by sunflowers was breathtaking. {Thanks guys for trusting me on that call} We headed back to the reception, the tunes kicked in, the girls kicked off their shoes and the partying began in earnest. I then had a brilliant moment I saw one of my old friends that I had not seen for about 10 years head into the wedding, Megan and him work together, it was one of those moments in life when you now you are totally in the right place at the right time and it felt like it was all meant to be. Megan & Mike you are infectious and just simply brilliant I hope you love your photos; they totally reflect you and your love for each other and life. x Thanks again for Sue for second shooting this one with me I know how much she loved this day too.
